Vteoctober 7, 2016, a month before the american presidential election, the washington post published the story and accompanying article then-presidential candidate donald trump and broadcaster billy bush had an "extremely lewd speech about girls" in 2005. Trump and bush were on a tram to film an episode of nbcuniversal's access hollywood show. In the video, trump described his attempt to seduce a married woman and hinted that he might start kissing the woman where he and bush were going to meet. He added: “i don’t wait at all. And if you're a star, they let you do it. You get the opportunity to do what you were looking for ... Grab them by the pussy. You get to do whatever you can imagine.” And lawyers described the act as erotic abuse.[2]

News of the tape came two days before the second presidential debate of 2016 between trump, the republican candidate, and democratic candidate hillary clinton . Trump issued a statement apologizing for the film's content, but tried to gain attention by saying that bill clinton "said a lot worse to me on the golf course." The recording provoked a stormy response from representatives of the media and politicians of any political spectrum. Statements by republican officials varied. Some, including trump's vice presidential nominee mike pence, senate majority leader mitch mcconnell, and republican national committee chairman reince priebus, voiced their disapproval of trump's words, but did not withdraw their tech support or call for his resignation. Other republicans, first former presidential candidate john mccain, have said they will no longer support trump's presidential campaign, and many have called for him to pull out of the election. House speaker paul ryan announced that he would no longer defend or support the trump campaign, although he has not officially withdrawn his support for trump. Bush was fired as host of today, another show owned by nbcuniversal and aired on nbc, and some women filed allegations of sexual harassment against trump.

The release of the tape was seen as an "october surprise" that influenced public opinion in the weeks leading up to the election. This has reduced public support for trump, according to this year's study. However, trump ended up winning the 2016 election.

Recording[edit]

The video was recorded in september 2005 in the parking lot of nbc studios as trump was preparing to appear in an episode of the nbc soap opera the hours of existence. Access hollywood[7], a syndicated entertainment news program owned by nbcuniversal,[8] conducted a backstage interview with trump about a guest appearance in which trump and bush arrived in a tour bus for a series of access across america segments.Produced to commemorate the program's tenth season. It features an audio recording of trump talking to billy bush, then the main access hollywood in those days, in a vehicle emblazoned with the https://parkingnearairports.io/FLL/days-inn-fll.html show's title. Trump and bush had microphones that recorded their casual conversation. Trump was later described as "clearly aware at the time that the tv program was recording him."[9][10]

According to an access hollywood spokesperson, there were seven other people on the subway: a film crew of two. , Bus driver, show producer, production assistant, trump security guard, and trump public relations representative. At the parking lot, the film crew was let off the bus so you could record trump and bush disembarking and meeting arianna zucker, who played nicole walker on the soap opera and appeared with trump in an episode where he guest starred. 11][12]

Contents[edit]

In the video, trump tells bush about his failed attempt to seduce nancy o'dell, who was bush's mistress. Co-host during (circa 2005) recording: i confess.

I tried to fuck her. She was married.

And i put a lot of pressure on her. In fact, i took her to furniture shopping. She wanted to order furniture. I said, "i'll show you where they have good furniture." I took her out of the furniture - i moved on her like a bitch. But i couldn't get there. And she was married. And all of a sudden i see her, from now on she has big fake boobs and everything. She completely changed her attractive look.[7]

Later, speaking of arianna zucker (with whom they were waiting to meet), trump says: tic tac if i start kissing her. You know i'm automatically attracted to the pretty ones - i just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just a kiss. I don't wait at all. And when you are a star, you are allowed to do it. You get the opportunity to do what is required. Grab them by the pussy. You can do absolutely anything that needs to be done.[7]

Publication[edit]

According to access hollywood, the discovery of the video was due to "a denial by mr. Trump of statements contained in an associated press article in which 20 former apprentice employees described mr. Trump's behavior towards women as obscene and inappropriate." A similar reception to the show's vaults. Celebrity news website tmz reports a different timeline: when nbc's senior management found out about the films, they thought it was also too early in the presidential campaign season to release it to maximum effect, and (according to tmz) these executives publicly said they found out video months after they unequivocally heard about it. Media because of the possibility that parties involved could sue if the video is posted.[9] by tuesday, october 4, nbc had prepared content that would not air for another 3 days. On friday, october 7, around 11 a.M. An unidentified source gave a copy of the footage to washington post reporter david farentold, who contacted the nbc to buy comments, notified the trump campaign that he had the video, obtained confirmation of its authenticity, and released story and tape by 4:00 p.M. [Seven, eight] warning that the post would be able to release the article immediately,[8] nbc news released its personal story "within minutes" after the post's article was published.[11]

By evening, the post story became “the most simultaneously viewed article in the life of the post portal”: on the afternoon of october 7, it was read by more than 100,000 people. At the same time, the post servers went down for a short time due to a surge in online traffic. 8] this story would later become one of the posts for which fahrenthold received the pulitzer prize for national journalism.[19]

Reaction[edit]

Reaction went live . , And trump's opponent in the general election, hillary clinton, among the permitted political figures, reacted to the tape by tweeting shortly after its release: "this is terrible. We are not prepared to allow this would-be president." On the record: "i'm sick because... I'm sad to say i'm not surprised." [22] in the second presidential debate 2 days later, clinton said of the tape: republican presidential candidates, i didn't agree with them, politics, politics, principles, but i never questioned their fitness for service. Donald trump is different.”[23]

In the second episode of season 42 of saturday night live (first aired october 8), alec baldwin parodied the controversy in the form of donald trump. Samantha bee, host of full frontal with samantha bee, switched gender roles on the commercials and issued an "apology" for the parody file on twitter. Touching a person's genitals without permission (also known as groping) is considered sexual assault in primarily us jurisdictions.[29][30][31][32] many lawyers and media commentators have characterized trump's statements as describing acts of sexual violence.[7][33][34] lisa bloom, a sexual harassment lawyer and civil rights expert, said: "let's be clear: he's literally screaming sexual assault. He's talking about taking a woman's genitals without her consent." 33] trump and some of his supporters have claimed that trump did not say he committed sexual assault and denied that groping is sexual assault. Journalist emily crockett says this is another indication of a trend towards minimizing sexual assault on bunnies. And in the absence of a specific warning, reached out and grabbed a woman by the crotch or breasts, this would rather constitute erotic abuse,” as stated in trump’s “i don’t expect at all” statement. However, it has been argued that even though trump has said, "i'm not even waiting," his full remarks may imply something like agreement. This is indicated by trump's full comments, including a statement, and after you are a star, they allow you to do this. You can do anything." Comment on trump's story of criticizing girls for their looks, among other remarks criticized as sexist. On october 8, cnn aired excerpts from several interviews trump gave on the howard stern show prior to his political career, in which he made comments similar to those already on the access hollywood tape. In september 2004, trump comments on the body of his daughter ivanka and, when questioned, tells stern that a person has the authority to call one's own daughter a "piece of ass".[42][43]

parties involved[edit] ]

Billy bush[edit]

While the controversy was centered around trump only, bush also faced backlash over the recording. [44] only because of his claim that zucker was "hot as shit" and that he encouraged her to hug trump after they got off the bus. Bush was criticized online and urged him to step down from the today show, which hosted the building material at the time. The washington post stated, "bush's public image has been damaged - perhaps not to be restored." [44] after filing registration, there were so many negative comments in bush's vk and fb accounts that such a twitter account was deleted on the evening of october 7. [44] 44] bush apologized that evening, saying, “obviously i'm embarrassed and ashamed. This is not an excuse, but it happened 11 years ago - i was younger, less mature and acted stupid, playing along. It's upsetting to me. "[44]

The controversy has led to speculation that bush's place in today" is under attack both due to backlash against him in social media news, never due to the possibility of the fact that the release of the record could create a toxic work environment between bush and the show's all-female industrial staff. On the evening of oct. 8, nbc executives confirmed that bush's job is safe, and what a useful thing he'll address the controversy in today's oct. 10 issue. Politico noted that today's audience is disproportionately female, so a significant drop in ratings after the controversy could still lead to bush being fired. Earlier in the week, on october 10, nbc reversed course and announced that bush would be suspended from playing the today program for a period of time pending further review; [46] since he became the host, his suspension was briefly considered during that day's broadcast. A day later, on october 11, several press sources reported that the nbc was "in talks about his departure." On october 17, the nbc announced that bush had resigned.[50]

Bush's status as a member of the bush family (namely, as a cousin of former president george w. Bush and nephew of former president george w. Bush [47]) was also noted after the controversy. The economist remarked, "who would have thought that mr. Bush, host of the nbc today news show, could end up playing a more influential role in an educational election than his cousin jeb, whom many republicans expected to win?" [51]. ]

People and corporations mentioned by trump[edit]

Nancy o'dell, the married woman trump spoke of, said:

Politics aside, i'm saddened by people that comments like this are still alive in today's society. When i heard the comments yesterday, i was sad to hear such objectification of women. The conversation needs to change because no woman or man should be the subject of such rude comments, whether the cameras are on or off because of it. Everyone deserves respect, regardless of setting or gender. As a girl who wants to be beautiful, who has overwhelmingly worked to establish her career, and as a mom, i feel i should speak out with the hope that as a society: we will always strive to be cooler.[13]

in response to trump mentioning their product on the tape, tic tac released a statement on twitter saying, “tic tac respects all women. We consider recent contracts and hesitation to be completely inappropriate and unacceptable. Behind closed doors, in dressing rooms or face to face, can be done with kindness, dignity and respect.”[53][54]

Republican party[edit]

The incident was condemned by many prominent republicans. Committee chairman (rnc) reince priebus said: “no woman should be described in such terms or spoken of like that. Some day". Shortly thereafter, the nrc suspended all support for the trump campaign. Condoning an attack? Such heinous degradation humiliates our wives and daughters and corrupts america's face before the world." Ohio gov. John keisich, trump's former top rival, called the remarks "unjustified"; former florida gov. Jeb bush, also a former top contender, called them "reprehensible." [57] senate majority leader mitch mcconnell also condemned the paintings, but continued to support trump. [58] paul ryan, speaker of the house of representatives, canceled trump's invitation to a scheduled campaign rally to defend or support trump's presidential campaign and, in a highly unusual move, released members of congress with ticket advances to use personal judgment, declaring that you are all must do what is best for your talents and the free district"; he, but did not withdraw his support for trump.[58][60]

Many members of the republican party withdrew their support as a result of the release of the video[61][62], including gov. Bill haslam[ 63]. ] And robert j. Bentley; [64] representatives bradley byrne, [62] jason chaffetz [65] and joe heck [66] and senators kelly ayott [67] mike crapo [68] and john mccain [69]. Former california governor arnold schwarzenegger, who once kept his opinions a secret. The campaign released a statement: "for the first time since i became a citizen in 1983, i will not vote for the republican candidate for president ... As proud as i am to call myself a republican, there is one label that i most importantly, an american.” [70] by october 11, "almost a third" of senate republicans said they would not vote for trump. [71] other republicans have expressed continued support for trump, ben carson[73], evangelical leaders tony perkins and ralph e. Reed, jr.[74] and former trump campaign manager cory lewandowski[74]. Other evangelical leaders, especially southern baptist convention ethics and policy director dr. Russell d. Moore, publicly chided evangelical leaders for still supporting trump. In a tweet, ted cruz asked why the nbc that had the record kept the guns for eleven years.[76]

Calls to end the campaign[edit]

By october 8, several dozen republicans called on trump to sort out the campaign and let his running mate mike pence take the republican seat.[77][78][79] connoisseurs of the pence takeover included former utah gov. John huntsman, jr. U.S. Senators dan sullivan of alaska, corey gardner of colorado, and deb fischer of nebraska, but also u.S. Staffers jason chaffetz of utah, bradley byrne of alabama, rodney davis of illinois, and ann wagner of missouri. Donald trump in an 11-year-old video released yesterday... I do not condone his statements and therefore cannot defend them.” However, he said he still supported trump as he "expressed remorse and apologized to the american people." 82] as of october 8, depending on the state:

- It is not possible to change the names on the ballots to the last factor for purely legal reasons.[83]- many general election ballots are already were printed, and it would be expensive to change them.[83]—thousands of ballots have already been cast in the united states with early voting.[83]for these reasons, commentators said it would be quite difficult, if not it is impossible to erase trump as the republican nominee.[83][84]

Political withdrawal[edit]

Increasing numbers of republicans throughout the day was not limited to criticizing trump's statements or refusing his technical support and began to call on trump to allow the presidential race by losing the republican candidacy to another person. 79] on the afternoon of october 8, trump responded with a tweet: “the media and the establishment are so eager for me to drop out of the race - i will never out of the race, i will not let down my fans for anything! #Maga".[85]

The republican national committee continued to support trump,[86] and over the next many days, several republicans who were going to have trump out said that the wallpaper was still voting for him .[87] steve bannon said in an interview with 60 minutes that the response to the controversy served as a "litmus test" for trump's allied republican troops. For example, according to bannon, chris christie was denied a job in the cabinet because he said trump's comments were "completely unjustified".[88]

Trump's responses[edit]

Trump acknowledged his remarks, but tried to evade, saying that bill and hillary clinton said and did worse than that.

After the release of the access hollywood video, the first public reaction followed trump. Similar to the written statement posted on his campaign platform:

This was a locker room joke, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill clinton told me much worse on the golf course - not even close. Sorry if i offended anyone.[89]

Early on the morning of saturday, october 8, donald trump made the most extensive statement ever posted on the commercials. There, trump said of the video's content, "i said such a move, i was wrong, and i'm sorry." He then "promised to change his habits" and ended the video by saying that bill clinton "abused women and also that hillary clinton mocked her husband's victims. Trump's video ended with assurances that clinton's allegations would be discussed soon.[91] trump's statement was heavily criticized by the media and members of the public as insincere and as an attempt to divert attention from trump's comments to unfounded accusations about his political opponents. Trump tweeted the following day, "yeah, it's been an interesting 24 hours!" On october 10, trump was also questioned about the tape during the second presidential debate of his campaign. He repeated that it was a “locker room conversation” and then said, “i’m not proud of that. I apologize to my family. I apologize to the american people.”[96]

Trump's wife melania said, “the words my husband used are unacceptable and offensive to me. It doesn't represent a person i'm aware of." She added that she hopes the residents will accept his apology, as i do.” Year, including with a republican senator, although he long ago admitted that the voice belonged to him, and apologized after the recording was disclosed.[98][99]

In january 2017, shortly before at his inauguration, trump told a republican senator that he wanted to investigate a tape in which he boasted of grabbing female genitals.[100]

Consequences and complications[edit]

Debate clinton-trump[edit]

The release of the tape sparked renewed anticipation for the oct. 9 debate between trump and hillary clinton, as it becomes the first time for either candidate to directly resolve the controversy. Less than two hours before the start of the debate, trump held a surprise press conference in st. Louis with paula jones, kathleen wyllie and juanita broaddrick, who had previously accused bill clinton of sexual harassment, and kathy shelton, a rape victim whose rapist represented in 1970 's hillary, appointed public defender. Describing the conference as his "debate set-up," trump called the women "brave" and "victims of the clintons," with each lady repeating her grievances against the clintons. At the conference, trump declined to answer a reporter's problem about the access hollywood record[101]. The clinton campaign called the conference "an act of desperation" and denounced trump's "destructive race to the bottom". First lady michelle obama said of the controversy, "it shocked me to my core because i had no way of predicting." Prior to the press conference, trump campaign advisers told reines priebus that trump had to leave to find out at the meet and greet, as they feared that "priebus would object if he found out the truth." Campaign chairman steve bannon told trump: "[broaddrick, jones, shelton and willie] will rub against you and cry ... [And the user will become sympathetic." In response, bannon recalled, trump closed his eyes, tilted his head back “like a roman emperor,” and said, “i love it.” Juanita broaddrick told the times she "had no idea why we were going there... [But] but that's not important. I would do it all again.”[103]

during the actual debate, co-moderator anderson cooper asked trump if the conversation on the tape meant that trump committed sexual assault. Trump said it “was a locker room conversation” and “i’m not proud of it,” and said that he would like to move on to other things, but in the end he answered: “i didn’t do the design.[34] it was later revealed that trump had arranged for the zodiac press conference girls to sit in their family box, or that images could enter the audience at the same time as bill clinton and confront him online, but debate officials intervened and prevented the planned trick. [104] the associated press later reported that willie and shelton had previously received financial compensation from trump ally roger stone during the campaign. [105]

History assault[edit]

Shortly after the story first appeared on october 7, canadian writer kelly oxford tweeted: “women: tweet me on twitter your first attacks. This is not an ordinary statistic.” Within hours, the tweet went viral, receiving hundreds of likes, many of them related to stories of sexual harassment of women. No less than 30 million players viewed or replied to oxford's tweet during the week. .[106]

Athletes and coaches response[edit]

Many professional athletes and coaches have dismissed trump's claim of everything as being exactly what he said on the record, it was "locker". Conversations at home,” stating that such comments were not normal or inappropriate. Los angeles clippers head coach doc rivers said, "[if trump's comments are locker room talk], this is a new locker room for me. [110] oakland athletics pitcher sean doolittle tweeted, "as an athlete, i've spent my entire adult life in locker rooms and this is not locker room talk." Tweeted: “pretty easy, for reference. I work in the locker room (daily)... That's not locker room talk. Just so you know…” [107] [110] los angeles dodgers pitcher brett anderson tweeted, “what the fuckin locker rooms donald trump was in…” [110] nba point guard kendall marshall tweeted, “psa: sexy harassment without permission is not locker room talk." Sorry". [111] olympic hurdler and sprinter queen harrison tweeted: "changing room talk", "boys will remain boys", "harmless banter". These are not valid excuses for behavior. Never turned out, under no circumstances does it threaten. Even if it were safe, it would be wrong.”[107][111] these responses also prompted the creation of the hashtag #notinmylockerroom.[107]

Eleven months after the footage was leaked, retired professional boxer floyd mayweather defended trump's comments, stating: says because he spoke a tough macho. Dressing room conversation. "I'm a man, you know what i'm saying? You know who i am. Yes, i grabbed her cunt. And?'"[112][113]

Anti-trump memes and campaigns[edit]

The backlash from the comments sparked a "pussy grabs back" hashtag calling for women to vote against trump on election day. Anti-trump cat memes circulated on vkontakte and facebook. The guardian wrote that the image of a snarling cat was "a rallying cry of women's anger against trump."115][116]

Trump's denial that his use ever kissed or touched the fair sex without their consent leads to advanced accusations by several women that trump sexually abused them.[117][118] the trump campaign denied .[119]

In a detailed consultation on the record, shannon coulter launched a viral campaign called #grabyourwallet, which encourages people to boycott various organizations selling trump-related goods.[120] since then, various organizations have done so. Boycotted trump products, including shoes.Com, nordstrom, bergdorf goodman and neiman marcus. >october 9 form staff at trump's reality show the apprentice and journalist geraldo rivera said they both individually have more damaging tapes of trump, but did not say if they would be made public. Rivera later stated that he conducted the search. His papers and what a useful thing he didn't get a chance to choose anything related to the scandal. There is behind-the-scenes footage of trump saying things that are "much worse." The nbcuniversal newsroom did not receive entry to the series archives. Another apprentice producer, chris nee, claimed on twitter that trump said "the n-word" in archival footage. Nee later deleted the tweet. The gofundme campaign launched on october 9th with the intention of “raising 5.1 million greenbacks to release more cassettes. The campaign is known as trump's sunshine campaign. Nee tweeted to mark cuban that a fine of 5 million greens would be charged for leaking the footage. David brock also offered to pay a fine for the publication of alleged recordings of the apprentice. By election day, the bright sun campaign had raised $40,000. As a result of the campaign, the tape was not found. In december 2017, organizer aaron holman posted an update stating that he would donate $25,000 of the nation institute's funds, with the remainder being used to reimburse the "investigative work" done by the campaign.[132]

E. Defamation lawsuit against president jean carroll trump was asked if he made statements in the works, to which he replied: "well, historically, this has been the case with the stars." Carroll's lawyers cited the allegations as evidence of a broader pattern of trump's sexual abuse, and his lawyers demanded that the tape not be taken into evidence in court.[133][134]
